What a great workout! My top 5 post-workout snacks.

Wow, that workout was tough but that’s how I like it. Do you like it when it hurts just a little more than it should? Is there something wrong with me? Don’t answer that. Solution Fitness totally stepped it up for my second month of the 12 week program. I think I’m getting my guns back. I better after deadlifting over 100lbs on Monday and pulling a sled with more than 110lbs on it today. My arms were shaking but I finished and it was amazing. Last week I met Chris DeStefano, a member of Solution Fitness, he told me why he loves Joe and his program. Here is what he had to say-

Do you ever know what to eat after you work out? The purpose of a post-workout meal is to provide fuel and reload the exhausted muscles. So, we need foods that are easily digestible carbs and good quality proteins. It’s a hard choice and the suggestion of chocolate milk never sits well with me. Here are my top 5 post work out snacks.

Whole grain toast, sliced ¼ avocado and a pinch of salt/pepper

Whole grains filled with fiber and a healthy source of carbohydrates. Just the right amount of healthy fat and the salt to replace lost sodium.

Apple and 12 almonds

Consuming a balanced snack is always the right path; pairing an apple with almonds you receive protein, fat and carbohydrates, perfect.

Protein pancakes

I’ll make this for breakfast for the kids and have the leftovers after I workout. Mix 2 eggs, ½ cup rolled oats, , 1/8 teaspoon baking powder, and ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract. Cook on flat pan (medium heat) until surface bubbles about 45 seconds then flip and cook another 30 seconds. Top with a few fresh berries or ¼ sliced banana. No syrup needed.

Green Monster smoothie

Blend 4 cups spinach, 1 cup almond milk, 1 banana, and 1 tablespoon peanut butter with ice — a favorite in my house any time of day. Great afterschool snack for the kids too.RFw2015 Muscle Recharge

Leftovers

1 cup cooked protein (from dinner last night), ½ cup cooked veggies, throw them in a pan with a touch of olive oil and a big handful of spinach. Sautee till heated thru and eat!
